Lecrae brings his 'All Things Work Together Tour' to one of Kansas City's newest venues - The Truman. He calls this his favorite album to date. Violence + Trauma Response Training | SAT Oct 7 | 10AM

The mission of Communities Creating Opportunities (CCO) is to organize diverse communities and people of faith to realize their power, develop strong leaders, unite partners, and advance solutions to our connected challenges.

The Violence & Trauma response training at Metropolitan Missionary Baptist Church will cover:
  • Statistics on/causes of violence and trauma
  • Effects of trauma on the person
  • Personal stories
  • How to plan a neighborhood peace walk
  • How to speak to/comfort victims' families and survivors of trauma
  • How to work with neighborhood groups to immediately respond to violent incidents
  • How to help document community conditions and advocate for public policy changes by pressuring lawmakers
  • Consideration of the role of youth in this work, and how connecting with and activating them can reduce violence
Lunch will be provided.

Special guest Director Carrie Hawks brings her short film Black Enuf* to Kansas City. Join her for the cash bar reception at 5PM and the 6PM screening; informal discussion to follow the screening.

A queer oddball seeks approval from black peers despite a serious lack of hip-hop credentials and a family that “talks white.” The quest for undeniable acceptance of her racial identity takes Hawks from Missouri to New York and halfway around the world in the animated documentary "black enuf*" (22 min.). Waterfire | Country Club Plaza | SAT Oct 7 | 5PM


Waterfire returns to the Country Club Plaza on October 7th for its 11th year! Each year along the banks of Brush Creek crowds gather for live vocals, dance and acrobatics and more! This year includes performances by Quixotic, StoneLion Puppet Theatre, Rhythmic Flames, Kansas City Drum Tribe, Trio Forte and renowned operatic tenor Ben Gulley.

Crowds will also enjoy a variety of Country Club Plaza food offerings including Seasons 52, Zocalo Mexican Tequileria, Cooper's Hawk and The Capital Grille.
