In These sKCreets The AvaBella Story

My Weekend Was Awesome...

Seriously. Awesome.

I started the weekend a bit early on Thursday with some culture. I attended the KC Friends of Alvin Ailey David T. Beals, III Studio Ribbon Cutting Ceremony and Trio Performance. Demetia Hopkins- Greene danced for her life. I felt everything she did! Kanji Segawa was totally #AmazeBalls. Marcus Jarrell Williams moved me to tears with his offering set to Donnie Hathaway's A Song For You! He was breathtaking! Be sure to check out my Hang w/ feed below for video from the Trio performance and the ribbon cutting.

I am so happy to support my neighbors on 18th & Vine and I can't wait for Setting the Stage on February 25th!

On Friday, I went to the first day of KC Restaurant Week for the first time in several years. I went to Bristol Seafood Grill for a mid-day lunch and my first course, the Lobster Bisque (I think it was the Cream Sherry...so good), was completely and totally amazing! For my main course I had Salmon with Lobster Risotto, and asparagus. I was underwhelmed, but I still plan on returning before the 24th to give it another go. I still gave dessert a shot, though. I ended with the Vanilla Bean Crème Brûlée and it was even awesom(er) than the Lobster Bisque! If you're like me and you have a nut allergy, just opt to exclude the Chocolate Almond Tuile (I kept the raspberries - #Exceptional).

Now I did still have to work a little bit...

I provided public relations services in partnership with Phillips West this weekend for the 47th Annual KC Symphony Showhouse Preview Weekend. The turnout was AMAZING on Saturday. On Sunday, hundreds more even braved the freshly fallen snow late Saturday night early Sunday morning to come out! Not only did you get to see some awesome interior design, but boutique owners like Trish Goodfriend of Teal Lotus, had some absolutely amazing boutique items. I suggest you check out Teal Lotus this week! She has 2 locations in the metro: West Bottoms (1308 W. 11th Street KCMO) and Leawood at 5307 W. 151st Street (Leawood, KS 66224). Check out Teal Lotus on the web HERE. I look forward to working with the Showhouse board next year!

I ended my weekend with a movie that I'm hearing beat out Star Wars for their first weekend sales! You guessed it, I went to see Ride Along at the Cinemark theater on the Country Club Plaza. Ride Along stars, rapper Ice Cube, and one of my favorite comedians, Kevin Hart. He had me in stitches! Beyond that, the movie was pretty star studded. Hangover trilogy star Ken Jeong also starred in the movie! Tika Sumpter was back for the second installment. Sherry Shepherd was hilarious! Benjamin Bratt was a true villain while musician and Fast & Furious actor Tyrese was great as usual, too! Before I forget, Ken Jeong is quickly becoming one of my favorite comedic! I give Ride Along 4.5 out of 5 stars. I wonder if we can expect Ride Along 3 soon?? I will still go back and watch the first one (again) to refresh myself with the history of the story.

Seriously go see this film!

I'll be keeping you posted on my excursions and what's hot and happening in the city so stay tuned; it's gonna be a busy couple of months!
